If God is for us, who can be against us? Have we ever truly asked ourselves this question and pondered the answer? This is found in Romans 8:31, but the depth of the answer is found in its context in v. 11.
Paul comes out of chapter 7 talking about his own struggles in his human nature and gives the solution to all these battles in v. 24-25. In chapter 8 he then begins speaking about being freed from the law and sin if we are genuine children of God. If the Spirit of God abides in us that is the evidence/proof we are His children (1 John 3:24; 4:13). There is no fear in that established fact; there is no doubt, no worry.
Now v.31: “What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?” Consider now v. 11: “But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.” IF you have accepted Christ as your personal Lord and Savior, you have the Spirit of God dwelling/living inside of you. And IF the Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, is living inside of us, God’s word says that will be strength to us physically as well as spiritually. I don’t know about you, but when I hear and read that as a child of God (v.14-15) I have the same resurrection power living inside of me that raised Jesus from the dead, I want to shout/thunder the answer to the question in v. 31: “If God is for us, who can be against us?” NOBODY!!!! NOTHING!!!! Paul, extending his expression of victory from 7:24-25, expounds this thought emphatically in 8:32-39: there is nothing we will lack (v.32); there is no condemnation that will stick (v. 33-34); there is nothing that will keep us from God’s love (v. 35); no trial too big; no stress too strenuous; no attack too intense; no situation too desperate; no injury too severe; no threat too great; no weakness too crippling; no wandering too far; no power too strong; nothing on this earth or in the spiritual realm that is greater, or stronger, or mightier, or more powerful than King Jesus and His resurrection power! And that same power, the power that God the Father raised Jesus His Son from the dead 3 days after they had murdered Him at Calvary for my sin’s sake, is the same power that abides in me today!!!
So, what are you facing today? What is that has you stressed or anxious or worried? What lie is that old snake trying to convince you to believe above God’s truth? I have the answer for whatever it is: “If God is for us, who can be against us?”
